Tale

Good evening

It is a great joy and pleasure for me to share this special evening with you.

My name is Oleksii. I was born in Ukraine, but due to circumstances I am with my family in Denmark. My wife was born in Armenia, and we have three wonderful children, two of them are here with us, my mother also lives here, but due to her age and poor health, she is in a nursing home in Copenhagen. For all of us, this is a special experience and a great honor to live here because we saw how the human rights mechanism works here and in your society you have the freedom to be different, and that is very wonderful.

This evening, my message is that we are all waves of the same ocean

We are gathered here tonight for Kulturnatten. Culture and humanity always go together, because culture is not only art or creativity, but also culture measured by how people treat each other. In everyday life, you can see how someone simply by listening to another person, or even just smiling can inspire them to embrace life.

I live in the asylum center Avnstrup. Our living conditions are unusual.

We have a communal kitchen, where people of different nationalities, cultures and religions cook together. We experience some different episodes. Maybe someone does not like the smell of pork. And someone else does not enjoy religious music. The atmosphere can change. Sometimes people get frustrated. But at the same time, people try to show respect.

One day in the kitchen, everyone was busy with their own tasks: someone peeled potatoes, someone cooked meat, someone simply cleaned up after themselves.

Then suddenly a woman felt very ill. It was difficult for her to breathe. But everyone in the kitchen began to help her. Some went for water, some for help and some simply stayed for support. They put aside their own ambitions, and in this difficult moment humanity rose above nationality, religion and traditional differences.

That situation made me happy. It made me want to see the whole world, where people, despite their differences, support and respect each other. Not hate each other.

I speak of this because today, society is largely infected with an epidemic of total egoism, which contributes to the constant development of division and conflict.

It may seem impossible, but humanity has within itself the power to love respect and recognize the connection with one another.

Sometimes it seems like we wake up in a new world every day, and everything changes very quickly, we often notice that the world has become very restless, but every day we can preserve the human within us.

Today, we come from different situations and different circumstances, we speak different languages, we have different color and cultures.

In all this we can see the incredible beauty of difference because we are all like waves of the same ocean. We have blood of the same color and we all walk under the same sky and we are united by a same language of love, which is understood by all people

And of course, all of us dream of living in a world where mutual respect, freedom and humanity are valued both in the personal life, family and in society, and this is possible when each of us can find at the bright light in each other.

I know, the dream inside each of us has incredible power and I believe, one day we will wake up in the better version of this world!

Thank you!
