For the past 250 years Denmark has been a good friend of the United States of America. Many Danes have a deep affection for America. To the people of Denmark, the United States stands as a beacon of freedom and democracy.
For decades, Denmark has stood steadfastly alongside the United States of America. After the horrific terror attacks on September 11, 2001, Denmark offered strong support to the United States, immediately joining the international response after NATO Article Five was activated. We heard your call and deployed forces to Afghanistan and later to Iraq, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to our alliance and shared values.
Since 2001, more than 27,000 Danish servicemen and women have served in U.S. and NATO led operations Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 200 Danish soldiers have been wounded in action, and 52 have made the ultimate sacrifice, most of these casualties occurring during active combat operations. Their dedication and bravery underscore Denmark's deep commitment to our shared mission and the enduring partnership between our nations.
In the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, Denmark became the Bedford of NATO. Denmark suffered the worst losses per capita of ANY of the NATO countries that answered the call of duty.
A call of duty, which Denmark has always been ready, willing and able to respond to.
Let us also remember the many Danish Americans who have fought and fallen in every war America has prosecuted since 1776. Their sacrifices, alongside those of Danish soldiers and heroes who never returned home, are a testament to the enduring bond between our nations and the shared values we defend together.
Denmark has always stood side by side with the USA—and we have showed up in the world’s crisis zones when the USA has asked us to. We feel let down and ridiculed by the Trump Administration, which is deliberately disregarding Denmark’s combat side by side with the USA.
Words cannot describe how much it hurts us that Denmark’s contributions and sacrifices in the fight for democracy, peace and freedom are being forgotten in the White House.
Words cannot explain how much it hurts us that the Trump Administration clearly disrespects the Kingdom of Denmark’s sovereignty and the Greenland people’s right to self-determination.
Words cannot express the feelings we have for our American brothers in arms and how much we hope that one day we may again stand together shoulder to shoulder.
To honor the memory of the 52 Danish heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting shoulder to shoulder with their American brothers in arms, we solemnly read out each of their names. For each fallen warrior, the Danish flag with their name will be placed in front of the embassy, serving as a reminder of the price Denmark has paid in the pursuit of freedom and shared values.

As we reflect on the courage and sacrifice of these fallen heroes, let us now observe a few minutes of silence in their honour.
